  • Cordless lighting enabled a smooth transition from day to night.

Project Summary

When it comes to international sailing regattas, the environment should feel as prestigious as the vessels on the water. We transformed an expansive waterfront viewing deck into a hospitality lounge designed to bridge the gap between a luxury yacht club and a modern coastal retreat. The focus was on a bright, maritime-inspired aesthetic that kept guests connected to the movement of the harbour through a clean outdoor lounge layout.

The primary lounge area was anchored by the Ipanema Coffee Set. Its clean lines and breezy design provided a central hub for guests to gather and watch the fleet return to the dock. We chose these materials to ensure the setup remained refined while being durable enough for a high-traffic waterfront environment.

Further along the deck, we created social pockets using organic, sculptural shapes. We incorporated the Horta Lounge Chair to add a modern, beach-club feel to the seating zones. To complete these hubs, we added the Geo Side Table in White, providing a minimalist surface for refreshments without cluttering the view of the masts. For this specific layout, we focused on low-profile pieces that mirrored the horizon of the sailing regatta.

Objectives

Our goal was to deliver a front-row hospitality experience that felt both exclusive and open to the sea. We avoided heavy, boxed-in structures, opting instead for an airy layout that kept the ocean breeze and the horizon the main focus.

Since spectators often spend the entire day watching the race from the shore, the event furniture had to be both supportive and comfortable. We looked to the Palm Springs Collection to maintain a consistent, high-end look across the venue. This allowed us to create a unified design language for the seaside event that felt custom-built for the harbour.

As for the lighting, we chose cordless solutions to keep the decks cable-free and eliminate trip hazards. The Cylindro Table Light created an intimate atmosphere for evening award ceremonies, while Ball Lights were scattered along walkways. These glowing spheres defined the outdoor lounge with a modern, maritime feel that suited the setting perfectly.

Design Dilemma

For the sailing regatta, we kept the layout low-profile so everyone on deck, whether sitting or standing, had a clear view of the finish line. However, the open nature of the pier meant guests were fully exposed to the midday sun, creating a need for effective shade that wouldn't block the visual field.

We integrated parasols to address this, providing relief from the heat while maintaining the deck's clean, white aesthetic. The placement had to be precise to ensure the large canopies offered adequate shade without becoming an obstacle for photographers or spectators tracking the yachts. To ensure the outdoor lounge area remained comfortable throughout the seaside event, the shade structures were positioned to follow the sun's trajectory along the pier.

The choice of materials also had to be strategic for a waterfront location. We needed furniture that was sturdy enough for coastal winds but refined enough for a luxury brand launch. Given the location of the seaside event, we selected furniture that combines elegant design with the durability needed to withstand salt air and prolonged outdoor exposure.

That said, we opted for the Palm Springs Bench in Beige to provide flexible, low-profile seating that didn't obstruct the scenery. Additionally, as the sun began to set, the transition to evening required lighting that could withstand the breeze without being intrusive. We used the Hollywood Floor Lamp as a stylish marker along the veranda, providing soft, ambient light that felt modern and sophisticated.

Solutions and Execution

We executed the layout with a focus on tiered viewing and a seamless social flow. While the central areas were kept low and inviting, we designed the perimeter for active social interaction, featuring a Wave Lit Bar that acted as a focal point during the evening.

To give guests an even better vantage point, we placed the Palm Springs Bar Stool along the railings. This allowed spectators to enjoy an elevated view of the race while remaining comfortably seated within the VIP zone. Providing premium outdoor lounge furniture for these types of high-profile outdoor setups helped ensure that sightlines and guest comfort are equally prioritised.

For the final design touches, we used the Palm Springs Side Table with Glass Top within the social clusters. This added a touch of elegance to the lounge areas, keeping the deck feeling spacious rather than cluttered. This variety in seating and functional surfaces helped make the lounge feel well-structured and suited to the event.

Results and Feedback

This project allowed us to showcase how design event furniture rental can adapt to unique, open-air environments. The focus was on a bright, maritime-inspired aesthetic that kept guests connected to the movement of the harbour.

The transformation was also highly effective, with guests noting the shift toward a more sophisticated, industrial-chic maritime vibe. The hospitality area became the primary social hub for the event, maintaining a mood that was both premium and resilient.

Additionally, the blend of modular sofas and high-top cocktail zones allowed the space to adapt seamlessly from daytime racing to evening prize ceremonies. Guests moved effortlessly between cosy lounges and elevated viewing spots, staying connected to the water’s action throughout.

Overall, the setup delivered a hospitality experience worthy of the sport’s prestige. With pieces chosen for both durability and refined style, we elevated the waterfront setting, proving that thoughtful design can transform even the most breathtaking views into memorable moments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Items made from high-grade polyethylene and powder-coated aluminium are ideal. These materials are specifically designed to resist sea spray and humidity, ensuring the setup remains in good condition throughout a multi-day event despite the salty air.

We use weighted, heavy-duty bases that provide stability against coastal gusts without needing permanent fixtures. This allows for flexible shade placement while keeping the pier surface intact and safe for pedestrians.

Many of our pieces, particularly the Lit Bars, have smooth surfaces that are perfect for vinyl decals or custom branding. This turns functional items into high-visibility marketing tools for race sponsors.

Our entire range of decorative lighting is rechargeable and offers long battery life, often lasting up to 12 hours. This eliminates the need for generators or messy wiring on the water’s edge, providing a reliable glow until the final ceremony concludes.
